We had to quarantine an entire team of teachers at school. That meant I spent every day last week covering someone else’s classes. So, I spent no time with my own students and they received no intervention services as a result. I understand that there are simply no subs available. But, I wish that instead of pushing forward at the expense of us, they would just close for a day or so until they have proper coverage. By Thursday night I was in tears from all the stress. Then I got an email dictating where I would be subbing the next day and I just cried harder. Then, I went in and scheduled a sick day. I couldn’t do it any more. I just have to get through Monday and Tuesday this coming week. Hopefully I won’t have to sub but I’m not holding my breath.
As if all that wasn’t bad enough, the class I had to cover for one day was horrible. The students were so disrespectful and defiant. I had to fight with them for a solid 90 minutes just to get the tiniest amount of work. Also, the seating chart was inaccurate so I didn’t even know who was who in order to make an office referral. And they refused to give me their names. Apparently, this group of kids is well known for behavior problems. Sigh.
Then, we got a letter that due to unpaid property taxes, they were proceeding with foreclosure. We were obviously confused, called our mortgage lender and found everything has been appropriately paid. Turns out, our lot is split into 2 and for whatever reason, this second tiny plot wasn’t included in our mortgage, but transferred into our name (unbeknownst to us) a year after the purchase. We had no idea. So, now we owe $751 in back taxes for a tiny part of our back yard that is its on parcel for some strange reason. Our mortgage company is trying to sort it out and set up a payment plan.
And then, there is my awful health insurance. One of my medications is $1000. Since my insurance started in September, I have filled the prescription 1 time. I can’t afford it. I owe so much in medical bills its insane. I’m slowly making payments, but that doesn’t chance the cost of my prescriptions. Thankfully, I found out yesterday that I hit my deductible so at least my December medications will be fully covered. Sadly, January starts a new year and a new $2000 deductible.
So, yeah, this hasn’t been a great week-sorry for being such a Debbie Downer! Hopefully I can make it through Monday and Tuesday and then rest a bit over Thanksgiving break.
So, whats new with you this week? Did you read any of the same books I did? Did you find any great book deals I need to grab ASAP? Let me know in the comments!

Sorry you’re having such a tough week. That’s really weird about your property. Bills I am not expecting always throw me for a loop. Good luck with the short week. ((HUGS))
Oh my Gosh Samantha! I am so sorry that this week has tested you so badly. I hope some miracle will happen with the insurance, truly. Sending hugs from across the ocean.
I can’t even imagine having to sub right now. Especially if you don’t know the kids. Stay strong! And hopefully you will have a wonderful week ❤️
ooh I can’t wait for your review of Archangel’s Sun—I had such fun with that one.
It sounds like you had a horrible week, and so exhausting and stressful. These COVID restrictions are hard on those of us that have to be the “fill ins” and cover for others. I will keep you and your family in my prayers and thoughts this week and that you will find some healing relief through it all. Let me know if you need anything darling.
Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving despite everything going on
I hope this next week is much better. The health insurance issues are tough every year. I’m filling all our Rx for 90 days now while we have met our deductibles too. Happy Thanksgiving! I wish you a lovely time to relax and read some wonderful books. I liked the Ruth Ware book.
Anne – Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post
I’m so sorry you had such a terrible week! I hope you have a better one this week. May you get some rest and recharge over the long holiday weekend. Sending positive thoughts your way!
I’m so sorry to hear you’ve had a nightmare of a week. My brother is training in a school to be a teacher and he says they’re sending whole years home if they don’t have the staff in to cover because of teachers testing positive. It’s a bit of a nightmare for him as he’ll be doing lesson plans for a year only to find out they won’t be in. I’m surprised your school doesn’t do something similar but everywhere is different. I hope this week will be better. And how bizarre you got a parcel of land without ever being notified. As it’s not your fault here’s hoping it all gets sorted. And then for your medical insurance drama, I’m exhausted for you. This week will have to be better.
Last week has truly been a horrid week for you, I’m so sorry ! I hope you’ll be able to catch some rest for Thanksgivings *hugs*
