What a week!! I had the meeting with the lawyers. Honestly, it was fine. The parent’s lawyer is very condescending (it was her strategy), but that doesn’t bother me. Condescension only works as a strategy if you let it get to you. I am confident in my job skills and I know that this lawyer is not an education lawyer-so she was trying to “trap” us, but that would have required me not knowing what we are doing. I spent most of my life feeling so unconfident in myself-my looks, my personality; just everything. But, I have been in education for 20 years and I have multiple advanced degrees. It took me a long time to feel confident, but I realize now that other people come to me for guidance. I 100% know what I’m doing. I am leaning into that hard. Also, I’m heading towards 50-I don’t have the patience for the nonsense and games and my verbal filter is THIN. So, in the end, we (the school) agreed to complete some additional rating scales and that was it. They agreed to the evaluation report and IEP. But, we get to meet again on November 6th.

Things are really busy at work. Its not just me either-2 of the other psychs in our district are super busy as well, and we have reached a point where we need to start trying to spread out the work load. My intern and I are already picking up some preschool, so we will pick up some more. I have 5 evaluation meeting this week though, so things will be busy. Unfortunately, my intern frequently has other things she has to do (classes, trainings), so she isn’t always there for the 3 days a week she is scheduled.

Its peak allergy season for me and I feel awful. My head is killing me, my nose is constantly running, and my throat hurts from all the post nasal drip. Its just unpleasant. The weather has been really up and down as well. We hit 90 on Thursday, the Friday got colder as the day went on, dropping down to 50. This week we will hit 80 a couple of days.  The dogs love this weather though, so I am powering through!

As you can see, I snagged a lot of books this week. I have done well for several months now and only gotten a few. This week there were just so many that really caught my eye.

So, whats new with you this week? Did you read any of the same books I did? Did you find any great book deals I need to grab ASAP? Let me know in the comments!

Samantha

  1. Glad that you felt confident and handled that parent/lawyer meeting so well! I still feel not so confident in my job because I think I tried so hard to get a middle school library job, and not getting hired even when interviews went so well hit that confidence for me. Then Friday I had to go sub all day, something I haven’t done in forever, especially not middle school age, and with some issues with the students, it made me feel worse. To be fair, the teacher did not leave any lesson plans and it was kind of an unstructured day, so I’m trying to give myself grace. And remember I have 2 years after this and then I can retire! lol. HOpe you have a good week!

    • The hiring process makes everyone feel bad! But, the reality is that some people just interview better. And interviewing in a competitive field makes anyone crazy. Subbing is the worst. I have never hated education more than when I had to sub!

  2. I love that you know your work and are confidant. My daughter doesn’t test positive for allergies but even with taking Allegra she still had a runny nose. The doctor recommended Montelkulast and wrote an X for it and that has been working. For me it’s Allegra and a nasal spray which has worked for years.

    • I take Montelkulast for my allergy related asthma! It does help! Sadly this time of year my allergies are just too bad. I have claritin, allegra, montelkulast, flonase, and an inhaler.
