Non-Bookish News:

One more week until Christmas break! Can we make it? Who knows! Monday is a Christmas dress up day (that can’t be a good idea) and Wednesday is the Christmas assembly (again, only bad things can come from this). Thursday and Friday are exams…so yeah, the 5 days before Christmas break and 3 of them are filled with shenanigans and then the kids have to be studious and take exams. Sigh…

The upside is I will then be on Christmas Vacation! Woohoo! We only have a week and a half this year (which is unusual) but I will take all the time I can get!

I’ve been enjoying my time of not reading ARCs. Its been nice to have no pressure. I have discovered though I struggle to pick something to read when I don’t have a deadline bound list. Weird, right?

In addition to my weird reading issues, I have NOT been able to get into an audiobook. Part of the problem is I have recently discovered how LOUD my car is. I hear all the road noise. Every change in pavement, every exterior wind noise…its all so distracting and loud it drowns out my book. I feel this is what is causing my listening slump. Sadly, a new, quieter interior car isn’t in my budget and its illegal to drive with headphones on.

So, whats new with you this week? Did you read any of the same books I did? Did you find any great book deals I need to grab ASAP? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Not weird at all. I spend this entire year struggling to read because I had no plan and I realized I am one of those people that need a plan. I thought I was a mood reader but that’s not the case. I am more of a list girl so I jumped back into challenge to see if that helps my reading. Every other year I made my goodreads goal because I had a plan, this year I didn’t and I am short. So it is not weird at all or maybe it’s just us. lol

I hope this week isn’t too crazy for you, Samantha! Happy Reading!

  2. Which idiot decided to put the exams AFTER the Christmas fun days? Surely the kids are going to be too overexcited to concentrate by Thursday?
My Mum was a primary school teacher (5-6 year olds) so I totally understand your end of termness. She’d bring Our Christmas tree home from her classroom on the last day of term, only to find her own kids expecting to be able to put it straight back up again. Now I understand why Mum never seemed too keen. Back then, I didn’t!

  3. I hear you singing from Belgium “one more week” Samantha LOL. I also got tattered as a freebie and no not knowing what to read next when you are not under pressure or on a schedule is not hard to understand. Happy Sunday!

  4. I just read the Dirty Little Secret by Ryan and it was simply wonderful. I had a blast with that one for sure. I am opposite of you with audiobooks. I am more into them than ever before.

  5. Yay for vacation. This week is busy but then we have little scheduled either. We’re trying to get started on a routine at the YMCA yoga and water exercise.

I have also been reading just stuff I want and it IS harder to pick! I don’t know why unless it’s more options instead of the specific ARCs upcoming in the next couple weeks. I am behind on audio ARCs so I am still listening to them. But I’m squeezing in some library books and purchases also. I’m listening to more audios, with earbuds while shopping, while cooking, while knitting or sewing. The only time I don’t listen is when reading or writing reviews. Hang in there one more week! Anne – Books of My Heart

  6. That spoof on Baby It’s Cold Outside is hilarious! The sudden backlash against it just boggles my mind and that guy’s take on it is so, so funny.
Oh my gosh, who planned that week at school? Good luck getting through the next 5 days!
Funny that you’re not reading without a deadline hanging over your head. LOL

  7. That cracked me up, your comments about dress up day and the assembly. I can only imagine. Stay sane for one more week haha! And enjoy break. 🙂

  8. Hey you! I’m right there with you about it being fun not reading ARCs for a little bit. I’m going to make it a point to not get so wrapped up in ARCs that I forget about books I’ve purchased or got on KU and ARP.

You can do it, Sam! You can make it one more week! 🙂 Enjoy your break!
