Non-Bookish News:

There is no tired like the tired of a teacher during the first week back to school! My feet hurt because I am not used to standing all day. My throat hurts because I’m not used to talking all day. My head hurts because I am teaching high schoolers (teenagers are a pain the neck sometimes!). Plus, its HOT and we don’t have AC so I’m sweaty which makes me irritable! Bottom line, this week is always rough. But, so far, we are off to a good start and I am hopeful this will be a successful year!

A happy birthday to Mr. Book Disciple who is 40 today! We had his birthday party last night and since we are old, it ended at 9 🙂 My husband is great and I am lucky to have him.

My allergies are going nuts right now. I’m not sure what exactly I am reacting to, but its awful! Hopefully it passes quickly.

Going back to work and having to wear real clothes (not leggings and pajamas) has made me realize I need some new clothes! I was grabbing stuff to wear and finding it had a tiny hole in the bottom or a discoloration for repeated washings over the years, and other typical flaws for old clothes. But I hate clothes shopping. I hate it SO MUCH! Anyone else have this problem?

I did my first escape room this week! As a team building exercise for all the teachers, we were put into groups and had to try to escape the room. My team did NOT escape the room. We were close-we had figured everything out except the final code to disarm the bomb. We had all the letters and numbers, but couldn’t figure out the order. Overall, it was more fun than I expected. Our tasks were largely based on color coding things and 2 people on our team were color blind so that became the joke all week! Of all the teams (I think we had a total of 7 teams), only 2 made it out of their rooms. Have you done an escape room? What did you think?

So, whats new with you this week? Did you read any of the same books I did? Did you find any great book deals I need to grab ASAP? Let me know in the comments!

  1. Those memes are so on point (and hilarious). It’s not only getting used to the grind again and using your “teacher voice”, but also getting the kids back into the routine. Good luck with getting back in the groove. Happy belated to your husband, and I hope you have an amazing week.

  2. aww it sounds like you really had a tiring week and I couldn’t live without AC. I hope this week is a lot better for you. It sucks being on your feet all day right? and BTW thank you for mentioning my post in your post (happy feels)

  3. I’ve never done an escape room but it sounds super interesting (and thank goodness it’s not real or I’d get blown up probably). Glad you had a good first week, in spite of all the tiring things (and our schools don’t have AC either (except the office lol) so I always feel for the teachers sweating their butts off at the start of the year!

    Cop Aerobics- wow lol.

    Have a super week!

  4. Well your first week is over now it’s closer to summer break again. lol Our Office has AC but it doesn’t work and we have no windows so it’s so hot and stuffy. I can’t wait for the winter which will probably be cold since I think the heat was broken last year. lol

I have to check out some of those book you have listed! I hope the school year is a good one for you.
Have a great week, Samantha! Happy Reading!

  5. Oh, first week of school! It’s too early these days. Used to be we went back the Tuesday after Labor Day.

I’m reading Magic Triumphs right now and loving it. I need to get to The Governess Game and Through the Fire asap! I’m behind because real life is really busy! Have a great week, Samantha! 🙂

  6. I couldn’t do the no AC thing. I hope you at least have a fan? It’s going to be in the 90’s this week here. At least you got one week under your belt. A good beginning. Happy Birthday to your husband.

  7. Rowena

I was tired just reading through everything you have to do all day. And having to do it all with no AC? Yikes.

Happy Belated Birthday to your hubby and I hope you have a better week this week. Lots of great books you’ve featured though.

  8. I hope you adjust to your new school schedule soon. I hate clothes shopping, too! I have very few clothes, and I wear them until they fall apart. I’d rather sew them back together than buy new ones, but that only works for so long.

  9. Nice that the year is off to a good start – despite the first week back struggles. I cannot imagine not having AC. GAH!!! I would totally be grumpy! I had to laugh at your celebration that ended by 9:00. That is so me. LOL And clothes shopping… ugh. The worst! Hope this week is proving to be a little easier!

  10. I hate clothes shopping and I’m also in a place where I need to buy some new clothes suitable for work… I’m putting it off until after we complete on the house (any excuse! ?)
I wish you happy clothes hunting!
