I thought I could save her.

A woman I've never met, whose name I don't even know, gambled her own life to protect my child. In return, she was taken by a mad man.

I'll put my career, my security, and my life on the line to get her back safely, even if it means risking my heart along the way.

Anchor is the story of a mad man taking several hostages on a ferry boat. Chloe is headed to Rockway island off the coast of Florida to check out a possible property for her employer. She notices a man with a gun taking hostages, one of which is a young, terrified girl (Emily) and her mother. A scuffle ensues, the mother gets knocked off the dock and Chloe is left to save the girl.

Enter the hero, Gabe. He is the little girl’s father. Emily implores her father to go save the woman who saved her. He agrees and is capable due to his background in the Marines and Coast Guard. When Gabe sees our heroine, Chloe through his binoculars, its love at first sight. I think I would have been more on board (get it!) with the insta-love thing if he fell for her once he actually sees her in person as opposed to via binoculars. I am usually pretty on board with insta-love anyway!

The plot is interesting and really engaging. The danger is realistic and scary without being so over the top. The hero and heroine are likable, but not really well developed. I think understanding more about what happened in Chloe’s previous relationship and what happened to Gabe’s previous marriage would have helped understand them more. The story jumps right into the action though and while thats great, you do miss out on having some understanding of the characters.

The story is fast paced and a quick read with lots of plausible drama and danger and I enjoyed that aspect of the story a great deal. Anchor didn’t totally wow me but it was enjoyable. I think it would be even better if the author lengthened it to add more information and details. I enjoyed Blanchard’s writing and will certainly grab the other books in the series!
