After an unstable childhood, Zoey Knight landed in Juneau, Alaska, during high school, and has never left. Now in her early 30s, she lives a quiet life that includes part-time caretaker for a beloved father figure. Despite the stability, she occasionally wishes for more adventure. She gets more than she bargained for when a plane she's in goes down in a remote stretch of wilderness - and the only other passenger is a man she's crushed on for years.
Life as a SEAL doesn't allow for much spare time, but Mark "Bubba" Wright still regrets not trying harder to visit his pop. Now it's too late, and the guilt is heavy when he heads to Alaska for the reading of his father's will. The only bright spot is finding a girl he knew in high school on the same tiny plane. The same woman, it turns out, who's been taking care of his pop...a girl he crushed on in high school.
Struggling to survive in the Alaska back country isn't the kind of second chance either envisioned, but relying on each other makes Zoey and Bubba's rekindled attraction hotter than ever. Funny how puzzling out who might want them dead can bring a couple closer together....
Securing Zoey is the fourth book in the SEAL of Protection: Legacy Series. Each book is a stand-alone, with no cliffhanger endings.
Securing Zoey is book 4 in the SEAL of Protection Legacy series but you really can read these as stand alones. In this story, we learn about Bubba, aka Mark, and a woman he used to know many years ago, Zoey!
Zoey and Mark went to high school together; Mark left right after graduation to join the Navy. Zoey stayed and was a caretaker of sorts for Mark’s father, Colin. Fast forward 10+ years and Mark has to return home for the reading of his father’s will. Enter the first danger: they get stranded in the Alaskan wilderness.
Securing Zoey focuses on first, how will they survive being dropped in the middle of nowhere, then, how will they figure out who wants them dead. The time in the wilderness is maybe 1/3-1/2 of the story. Then they head back to California for a bit, before returning again to Alaska and facing more danger. Their relationship is “quick” in the sense they have feelings for each other, but they don’t jump right into sex or anything. Zoey, like many of Stoker’s heroines is quiet and unassuming. I’m almost getting annoyed with these women because they are just so perfect. But, I’m a bitch sometimes I would just like to see a heroine more like me I guess.
Fans of Stoker will love Securing Zoey because its classic Stoker. If you enjoy hunky alpha males, strong and unassuming females, and lots of crazy danger, you will love Securing Zoey.
