One tenacious local detective can only get the help he needs from a former forensic photographer with a serial killer on the loose in the new romantic thriller from New York Times bestselling author Laura Griffin.
When former forensic photographer Miranda Rhoads moves to the seaside town of Lost Beach, she's decided to make her living as a wildlife photographer and put crime scenes behind her. But her plans are quickly upended when one morning, she comes across a couple sleeping in a canoe, entwined in an embrace. Looking closer, she realizes the man and woman aren't asleep—they’ve been murdered.
Detective Joel Breda sets out to find answers--not only about the unidentified victims in the marshy death scene, but also about the aloof and beautiful photographer who seems to know more about his investigation than he does.
As they begin to unravel the motivation of a merciless serial killer, Miranda and Joel must race against the clock to make an arrest before the killer can find them first.
Flight by Laura Griffin released in 2021. I’m not sure why it took me so long to listen to this. Maybe I was a little burned out after the 1st book in the series (which was good, but not great). But Laura Griffin writes great romantic suspense stories! Flight reminded me of that.
Miranda used to be a forensic photographer (crime scene photographer), but has seen enough horror and has decided to move to a small, coastal Texas town and become a wildlife photographer. She just can’t seem to escape crime though. Now she and Joel, a local cop, are hunting a serial killer. What Griffin always does well is blend the murder mystery with romance. It seems like those 2 things shouldn’t exist together, but Griffin makes it a perfect match. Danger, romance, building emotions, building suspense-it all just works! Yes, the romance is quick, but I had no problems putting it aside. It felt appropriate for the story, and the couple are well written. You know the chemistry is there. My only issue was the plot seemed slow at times. I have always struggled with slower building books, and I think this has always been my hang up about Griffin’s books. Its really just a personal thing.
The audio is narrated by Teri Clark Linden and it was great! Good voice changes for various characters and good enunciation. As a hearing impaired person, enunciation is critical to my ability to enjoy an audio.

authors like Toni Anderson, Allison Brennan, Susan Stoker…then you will probably like Flight!

I have read the first and 4th book but I can be hit/miss with this author. I liked them but wasn’t excited enough to read the rest of the series. And I love romantic suspense. idk
I agree-hit or miss! I think it helped that I waited a LONG time then picked it up again after reading lots of other genres. I think I was just really burned out.
Slower building books are often DNFed for me. Glad you were able to get on through this one though. Would you say it was better than the first one for you and that you’ll go on?
