Can a love built on secrets survive?
Rugged, hot, and rock hard, Dred Zander is exactly the type of man that normally sends Pixie running. Not dreaming about running her hands down his washboard abs...and lower. The lead singer and guitarist for the band Preload embodies trouble behind his quick smile and guarded eyes, and Pixie left trouble behind her years ago along with the name Sarah Jane Travers and the pathetic trailer her mom called home. With her abusive past in her past, she has a new life, a new family at Second Circle, and a dream of opening her own business. She needs capital and time. What she doesn't need is a tempting long-haired rocker or the paparazzi that follow him around.
But Dred has other ideas. Pixie's sweet hazel eyes, purple hair and kaleidoscopic tattoo of exotic flowers that swirl up her arm haunt his dreams, and he knows she wants him too. He just has to convince her. But as a juicy exposé threatens to expose their pasts, and a blackmailer terrorizes their present, Pixie and Dred have to decide what really matters and fight like hell to keep it.

what i think

If you have followed my blog at all, you have heard me RAVE about how much I love The Second Circle books. The Strongest Steel made my Best of 2015 list and Trent is still one of my top BBF! So, needless to say I stalk follow Scarlett online nonstop so I can make sure I know exactly when I get my hands on these books.

I wasn’t sure I would enjoy Dred and Pixie’s story. I never really connected with either of them in the other books. I should have had faith in Cole. She made me love them both so much. They are such complex characters. I am always drawn to characters with such tragic backstories. I know its twisted, but I love characters who come from abusive, broken homes. Yes, I’m sick like that. I can’t help it. I think it just makes their growth so much more amazing! Dred and Pixie certainly have enough tragedy to keep me reading. Add in the paparazzi who look to get pictures of Dred, the stepdad who is hunting Pixie, and the crazy one night stand who claims to have given birth to Dred’s child and you have drama and angst to spare. I loved every minute of it. This book takes you on a wild ride filled with tragedy and redemption and HOT love.

  1. I enjoyed The Purest Hook, too, Samantha, and like you, Trent from the first book still makes me swoon when I think of him 😉 I was able to guess all the big things here, though, which did take away some of my enjoyment, even if I completely fell for Pixie and Dred!
    Great review 🙂

    • Yes, it was a bit predictable, but I think I was so in love with Pixie and Dred I didn’t care. And oh my gosh, I still swoon every time I think of Trent. Sigh….he is one of my favorite book boyfriends!
