Thanks to the publishers for these gems!

Non-Bookish News:

My students officially return this week! Summer is officially over. Boo! I’m never quite ready to go back. The start of the school year is always busy and for us, at a private school, its even more so. The end of September is our trip to Italy, then the first weekend in October is Homecoming, then one weekend is the ACT test, and another weekend is Open House. So, I pretty much spend 6 days a week at work. Once we get through October, things lighten up a little though. This year, my students are Juniors and Seniors. I am so excited for them but I will be so sad when my seniors graduate at the end of this year. I have worked with these students for 4 years now!

I have been in a bit of a book funk. I have lots of books that sounded good when I requested them, but now, nothing sounds good. Does this ever happen to anyone else?

So, whats new with you this week? Did you read any of the same books I did? Did you find any great book deals I need to grab ASAP? Let me know in the comments!

  1. It may well be that you’re so very busy your head is in a different place from where it was when you requested the books… That does sometimes happen to me. So then I hunt around for other books I’m in the mood for, knowing that I’ll feel more like the first lot when things revert. If that makes sense… Hope your new students are fun and the new year goes smoothly. I’ve another four weeks before I start back teaching::).

  2. Ah yes…the book funk. Yep, sometimes I am really into a genre, and then by the time a patch of books comes into my queue I am no longer feeling it. Good luck with the busy beginning of school. 🙂

    • Yeah, I think I need to just switch it up a bit! I have a string of sappy contemporary romances and I am just not feeling it. I might jump ahead on my list to PNR or romantic suspense.

  3. Wow, ItalY! That sounds fabulous. It does seem that school starts and so much happens right up until after Christmas break. Thing it’s the long haul to summer. LOL Good luck with your classes and hope there’s some fun surprises in store for you and your students:)

  4. I often go off books that I’ve requested. Sometimes because I’ve seen bad reviews or just because I’m not in the mood for them at the moment. It has made me wary now about review books and I try hard to curtail them in my reading menu.

Sounds like work will be hectic!

    • Yes! Sometimes I see a slew of less than rave reviews and it does kind of turn me off in advance. Especially if those reviews come from other bloggers I follow and tend to agree with!

  5. I had to follow you on bloglovin’ because I can’t keep missing your reviews. You always have reviews for the books I’ve been wanting to read. I hope that this school year is kind to you, and enjoy your week!

  6. Wow. A trip to Italy?! My school never did that but then again I went to public school. Sounds like you have a busy couple of months ahead of you. You’re not alone on the book slump, I’m right there with you. I just can’t seem to focus on a book and get into it.

    • Yes, going to Italy is part of our school’s honors program! Its a big deal! Students have to keep a certain GPA, have so many AP courses, and meet a higher level of community service hours. I graduated from public school as well and we NEVER did anything like this. They wouldn’t even take us out of the state, much less out of the country!

  7. I have that problem too- sometimes a book looks so good but then it comes time to read it and I’m just not into it, so yeah can relate to that. It happens. 🙂 And sounds like you have a hectic couple months coming up! It is a bummer summer is almost over, this one sure flew by.

Deadly Silence looks great and I’m not familiar with the Black dagger brotherhood but that’s an awesome title! I’m hoping they’re as good as they sound.

    • I was super intrigued by Deadly Silence so I have high hopes for it! I have been on a big romantic suspense kick and I love true crime stuff too so I am always looking for books with those type of elements!

  8. You, Me, book funk twins!!! I swear, I think it’s just the time of year! I think you’ll be fine. Just take a break, maybe move Waaaaay up in your review books? Get a head start for when you’re in Italy? Or maybe read some Christmas books? Those are due out in Sept.

    Btw, how’s the non-diet going?? 🙁

    • Yes, actually I have noticed a lot of Christmas books lately…
Ugh the non-diet…Its not terrible but I haven’t been super strict about counting everything. I know I am eating less and exercising more, and right now, that is enough for me. I’m hopeful that since I go back to work this week my eating/working out will be back on a schedule. I do well with schedules!

  9. Definitely sounds like school will be quite hectic for a bit, but hopefully things go smoothly! 🙂

Sometimes books that sound good at one point don’t sound as interesting when you actually find time to read them. It could be the book, or maybe you just need a little break and then go and try again.

  10. Sometimes that just happens with books where something sounds appealing when we are in a certain mood, but once that leaves it just kind of seems eh. It might come back. Hopefully it will come back though.

And sounds like you’ll have a super busy two months at school. Good luck with that!
