Clay Bennett is a powerful DarkRiver sentinel, but he grew up in the slums with his human mother, never knowing his changeling father. As a young boy without the bonds of Pack, he tried to stifle his animal nature. He failed... and committed the most extreme act of violence, killing a man and losing his best friend, Talin, in the bloody aftermath. Everything good in him died the day he was told that she, too, was dead.

Talin McKade barely survived a childhood drenched in bloodshed and terror. Now a new nightmare is stalking her life - the street children she works to protect are disappearing and turning up dead. Determined to keep them safe, she unlocks the darkest secret in her heart and returns to ask the help of the strongest man she knows....

Clay lost Talin once. He will not let her go again, his hunger to possess her, a clawing need born of the leopard within. As they race to save the innocent, Clay and Talin must face the violent truths of their past... or lose everything that ever mattered.©2008 Nalini Singh; (P)2011 Tantor

Book 4 in the Psy-Changeling series is the story of Talin and Clay. These two have a past much darker than I expected so make sure you check the trigger warnings if you have certain topics that bother you. Darkness aside, Mine to Possess is a redemption story and a second chance at love.

Talin and Clay met in their run down town as kids where Talin lived with a foster family and Clay lived with his mom. Talin adored Clay and he was her hero. Until he finds out the secret she was hiding and commits a murder. He is hauled off to juvie and Talin refuses to allow Clay to contact her. She even convinces him she is dead. But now, years later, she needs his help to save some of her street kids.

Talin and Clay’s story is so sad. They both have so much pain about the events in their lives and the decisions they have made because of them. It would be easy to dislike Talin for some of her choices, but as the story unfolds, it makes sense to me. She is quite possibly one of the most believable characters I have read about when it comes to abuse survivors. Her job working with Shine makes perfect sense for her and I thought it was very cool!

Mine to Possess gives you more Sascha and Lucas, Faith and Vaughn, and even a little Judd and Brenna. This is the first book of the series with a human main character so I was glad to see that as well. While each book focuses on a new couple, I really feel that these are not stand alones. Singh does a lot of really interesting world building and each book builds a bit more! We start to learn more about the Psy who refused Silence years ago. It brings a new dimension to the story with each piece of the puzzle we get.

  1. I love this series so hard.. That I just started this series in Audio. I agree with you on Talin and that this one is a deep powerful read with how their past has shaped them and how they come back together. Great review.

  2. I’ll have to see if my library carries this series in audio. It’s been on my tbr for a long time but I’ve only read Singh’s Guild Hunters series and I love it so I figure I’ll enjoy this one as well. I’m glad you felt this installment was a worthy addition to the series. It’s interesting how Talin’s and Clay’s lives intertwine and I’m a sucker for second chance romances. 🙂 Great review!

  3. oh yes….this is a fantastic book and I adore Clay and Talin together although their story is heartbreaking at times, only makes them finding their HEA all the more sweeter!! And I am so excited and thrilled that you are enjoying this series and yes the Psy world is very interesting. I do love how Singh has handled the world building.
