So, I pretty much avoided my high school office this week. I let everyone know that I wouldn’t be there often because the space was so in demand. They said they felt bad, but clearly not that bad since no one really apologized for the lunch thing. It didn’t really bother me that they didn’t ask me to join them so much as how disrespectful it was to take over my office with the lunch you didn’t ask me if I wanted. Like, its okay if you don’t like me and didn’t want me to have lunch with you, but then don’t eat it in the only space I have to work in. So, I spent most of my time at the middle school and I was much happier for it. My office there is small (10′ by 7′) but its my space and I have really made it mine.
I had a couple of later afternoons this week for meetings and such, but otherwise it was a pretty typical, low key week. I have to go to a training tomorrow afternoon and I am NOT looking forward to it. Its the type of meeting where they make us play those group games. Last week they made us play the name game-with 40 people. So, the first person said their name and what they would bring to the party. Then next person has to say the first person’s name and what they would bring, then their name and what they would bring. And so on for 40 people. It literally took an hour. The first game they made us play took 45 min. The actually meeting was 15 minutes long. I had 0 patience for it because I have actually work I need to do! Hopefully tomorrow won’t be like that. If so, the item I will bring will be a set of ear plugs so I can tune them out.
We had our first doggie escape in awhile. It happened on my husband’s watch. But, it was the first one in weeks! I feel pretty good about that.
So, whats new with you this week? Did you read any of the same books I did? Did you find any great book deals I need to grab ASAP? Let me know in the comments!
It’s great you are settling in and making choices that work for you. 10×7 isn’t that small. Lots of people have office cubes which are smaller. It’s nice you have the little table for meetings. I hope this week is even better.
Anne – Books of My Heart This is my Sunday Post
I am glad you still can have a little haven at middle school Samantha! Because thes epeople are so rude!
Urg! I recall those training meetings – where someone is wheeled in who hasn’t taught in years… Who decides to provide some insultingly stupid ‘staff bonding’ activity (exactly like the game you described) when you’ve a mountain of paperwork and marking and would like to get home sometime before 6 pm. I once was caught rolling my eyes and was asked to explain my hostile attitude – so I told them exactly what I thought. There was a slightly stunned silence and I braced myself for the pushback from the head and/or deputy – and heard not a peep. Best of luck!
I hate those name game things, but for 40 people? That’s insane. Glad you had a little better week staying at the middle school, and glad you spoke up at the high school. I’m not good about doing that. I hope you have a good week! I’m reading Every Duke Has His Day right now.
Oh my gosh those group games! I mean, aren’t we adults???? I don’t understand the work world sometimes…
Those new editions of Tied and Torn are so pretty. Sounds like you’re much better off at the middle school office, and only going to the HS office as needed. Group games… ugh! Does anyone actually enjoy those things? What torture.
That’s terrible if you can’t even feel comfortable in a space that’s supposed to be yours. I’m sorry you have to deal with such issues. Hope you have a better week next week. I loved Every Duke Has His Day and I’ve been enjoying that Cynthia Eden series.
