They were masters of the darkness, searching through eternity for a mistress of the light...
Would she find magic—or madness in his dark embrace?
Young Savannah Dubrinsky is a mistress of illusion, a world-famous magician capable of mesmerizing millions. But there is one—Gregori, the Dark One—who holds her in terrifying thrall. Whose cold silver eyes and heated sensuality send shivers of danger, of desire, down her slender spine.
With a dark magic all his own, Gregori—the implacable hunter, the legendary healer, the most powerful of Carpathian males—whispers in Savannah's mind that he is her destiny. That she was born to save his immortal soul. And now, here in New Orleans, the hour has finally come to claim her. To make her completely his. In a ritual as old as time . . . and as inescapable as eternity.
Dark Magic is Savannah and Gregori’s story. I loved Savannah! She is young and determined to NOT be kept in a gilded cage like all Carpathian women. Her mom was human after all so she has a bit of a rebellious side. When she discovers that Gregori is her mate, she asks for 5 years of freedom. He grants that, but as soon as the time is up, he claims her.
Gregori….I struggled with him as the hero. He, for all intents and purposes, raped Savannah. He knows her biggest fear is being forced into a life of imprisonment. However, instead of talking to her like a normal person, he does exactly what she is afraid of and forces things on her. I understand Gregori’s past and how he was on the razor’s edge of turning and his deep guilt over his past. You would think that level of guilt would make him a BETTER person. But, who decides to be the better person? Savannah! She decides to be kind and compassionate to him because of his self hatred and guilt. Gregori does get better but I was so turned off by his behavior I just never really fully warmed up to him.
Like the previous books, the Carpathians are being hunted by the vampires and the humans. Savannah was a famous magician, but after the death of her assistant, she has to ‘retire’ and her and Gregori flee to New Orleans.

The Black Dagger Brotherhood by JR Ward, The Guild Hunter series by Nalini Singh, or other steamy paranormal romance…then you will probably like Dark Magic!
Nice review. I need to return to this series. I stoped after Dark Wolf ^_^. So many books so little time. Though I do enjoy this series.
