Goodreads
Danger is gathering on the horizon in this gripping novel of romantic suspense from #1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan.
Shabina Foster does her best to lead a normal life. She takes comfort in her friends and her dogs and finds passion in running her own small-town café in the eastern Sierra. But she can’t help always looking over her shoulder, not after what happened in her past. Since then, Shabina has worked very hard to build herself up and live life to the fullest.
Still, there’s no denying the scars she carries. Truly opening up her guarded world seems like an impossible dream—especially when it comes to the one man who makes her feel safe. Shabina already feels like she’s ruined his life and is determined to keep her distance, even as the ghosts of her past emerge from the shadows.
Security expert Rainier Ashcroft knows firsthand that a storm is brewing and that Shabina is in real trouble. Threats are approaching on all sides—and there’s no telling when the next hit will strike. But convincing the woman he loves to truly let him in will be just as difficult as keeping her alive.
Deadly Storms is a bit of a suspenseful read, with a bit of a puzzle to figure out! Shabina is living with the trauma of her past, but it is a daily struggle. Some problematic people in the small town end up dead, and Shabina worries that perhaps she isn’t going to survive everything after all.
The book is focused on Shabina and her present life, but that present is marred by her tragic and traumatic past. She is in a good place, but things start to trigger her PTSD and her present is in danger. Rainier saved her years ago (from the initial trauma), but she doesn’t want to contact him again. She has a lot of guilt about the past and feels that she ruined his life. Eventually he swoops in as the hero he is, but it isn’t until we are well into the book. Their romance is built mostly with longing and tension. The focus of the story is mostly Shabina and her past (which is invading her present). There is the paranormal present, as I think is typical in Feehan’s books, and it keeps things interesting and unique.
Deadly Storms is not a light or easy read, so be prepared. I appreciated how well the trauma and PTSD were handled, but the story is heavy and not for everyone. This is book 3 in the Sunrise Lake series, but you can read it as a stand alone.

Sounds like a series that continues to be good for you. Interesting that it can be read as a standalone in the series at this point too. Great review!
