A sexy category romance from Entangled's Brazen imprint...

She’s always been off-limits…

Former Army Special Forces Sgt. Marco Vieri has never thought of Alyssa Scott as more than his best friend’s little sister, but her return home changes that…and challenges him to keep his war-borne demons at bay. Marco’s not the same person he was back when he protected Alyssa from her abusive father, and he’s not about to let her see the mess he’s become.

…but now she’s all grown up.

When Alyssa takes a job at the bar where Marco works, her carefree smiles wreak havoc on his resolve to bury his feelings. How can he protect her when he can’t stop thinking about her in his bed? But Alyssa’s not looking for protection—not anymore. Now that she’s back in his life, she’s determined to heal her forbidden hero, one touch at a time…

Her Forbidden Hero features Alyssa, a recent college grad desperate for a job. She applies at Whiskey’s in hopes to combine her love of music with her degree in management. Also working there is her brother’s best friend, Marco, who is back in town having been discharged from the military after an accident. He doesn’t want ‘sweet, innocent Alyssa’ working at the bar and doesn’t hid his displeasure at her hire. Alyssa won’t be deterred though!

Alyssa is an outgoing woman who isn’t afraid of hard work. She had a tough life and her brother and Marco have always watched over her. She wants to be independent and needs this job desperately. I really liked her. Her life is kind of a hot mess-abusive father, brother away in the Army, mom died years ago, no where to live, mountain of student debt looming…you get the picture. Despite it all, she keeps her head up and keeps plucking away. Marco’s callous words cut her down a few times, but she keeps going. She tries to help him, even without his knowledge because she feels that she should. He has always helped her and now she can help him. Of course, he doesn’t quite see it that way…

Marco feels that he owes Alyssa’s brother everything. After all, he saved Marco while they were in Afghanistan. He feels that he MUST watch over Alyssa, but his life is such a mess he isn’t sure he can handle it. However, he does start to see that Alyssa isn’t a little girl anymore. I wanted to throat punch him a few times for things he said that just totally came out wrong. He realizes it like 20 minutes later, but he just couldn’t keep his foot out of his mouth sometimes!

I have always enjoyed the Entangled Brazen books because they are short and steamy. Add in that they are written by some of my favorite authors, and I am in book heaven. I have been wanting to read more books by Laura Kaye and I was not disappointed! Her Forbidden Hero takes the brother’s best friend trope adds a wounded hero and grown up heroine to deliver a steamy weekend binge read!
