Hey Daddy starts with a dedication that made me tear up. Vale dedicates this to her dog who recently passed. Calleigh, my first fur baby, passed away on Halloween, and that pain is very fresh. So, dogs are a part of this story.

Nastya is Shasha’s sister and she is very independent. She doesn’t want to be controlled by her family and feels that their protection is suffocations. Haze is a cop who is beginning to really hate the job. They lock eyes at a bar but then he gets called out. The meet again the next day, and it turns out, there was a body in the trunk of her car and he is the lead detective. I loved their easy way with each other, pretty much from the beginning. They have a really good relationship from early on. But, Nastya is still being framed for murder, and Haze is determined to make sure that doesn’t happen. Oh, and her scary older brother the head of the Bratva has to make sure Haze is good enough for Nastya as well. She teasingly calls him “Daddy” a couple of times which is a huge pet peeve for me, but its done in jest and not constantly, so it didn’t bother me.

There were tears in the book for me because of the dogs. Throughout everything Haze and Nastya are going through, they also lose pets and I don’t think that will ever not be difficult for me. But, I loved this story so much!
